Spanish Placement
Eligibility Requirements
SPAN 201 Eligibility:
- Completed 2 years of high school Spanish OR received a score of 3 on the AP Spanish Test.
SPAN 301 Eligibility:
- Completed 3 or more years of high school Spanish OR received a score of 4 or higher on the AP Spanish test.
If a student has a Seal of Biliteracy from:
- Oregon: Eligible for SPAN 301.
- Washington or Alaska: Eligible for SPAN 201. (Note: Only Anchorage School District and the lower Kusokwim School District offer accepted seals.)
- California:
- IB SL score of 5: Eligible for SPAN 102.
- IB HL score of 5: Eligible for SPAN 201.
- AP Score of 3: Eligible for SPAN 102.
- AP Score of 4 or higher: Eligible for SPAN 201.
- Not accepted as equivalent if only completed through a high school class.
Challening Placement
- Students may schedule a one-on-one interview with faculty from the Spanish Department after August 15th to challenge their placement for a higher-level course. For more information on scheduling an interview, please contact your CAP Coach.
